On June 17, University Cultural Center Association, cut the ribbon and opened the doors to its newest development project in the Sugar Hill District – 71 Garfield. In partnership with Zachary & Associates, HUD, City of Detroit, State of Michigan, Detroit Investment Fund, New Economy Initiative. Highland Park Since August, Highland Park has seen numerous additions to its business landscape along Woodward. Businessman Michael Curis, has been able to lure Boost Mobile and most recently Checkers a quick service restaurant to his development: Shops at Woodward. The store and restaurant join Aldi Foods, Communicating Arts Credit Union and more.
The city also saw its first sit-down restaurant in several years open when the Detroit Rescue Mission opened Cornerstone Bistro. Cornerstone will be managed and staffed by members of the DRMM Culinary Arts School which works with Wayne County Community College District.

Pleasant Ridge
Nancy Crutchfield will be opening the long awaited Cork Wine Bar at 23810 Woodward. This is the former location of Mark Johnson & Associates Architects. Not just an average wine bar, Cork plans to double as an upscale fine dining restaurant. This opening of the restaurant is the result of Pleasant Ridge approving its first liquor license in their history.
Royal Oak
Western Michigan University opened the doors to new satellite offices in June. The site will be home to the universities student recruitment and alumni outreach offices for the region.
Birmingham
Greenleaf Trust opened the doors to its Southeast Michigan located in the five story, 50,000 square foot building at Maple and Woodward. The building will also house Zazios restaurant, leased office space and five luxury apartments. Birmingham continues to be a hot bed of activity along Woodward as well as Old Woodward. Working together the City of Birmingham, Birmingham Principal Shopping District and Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce has attracted a number of new business successfully balancing the closure or relocation of several business. In May, WA3 members A.F Jonna Construction broke ground for mixed-use, 20,000 square feet office and retail development at Woodward and Long Lake Road. Construction is expected to be complete by early 2011.

Pontiac
On August, 18 the Woodward Avenue Action Association and the City of Pontiac celebrated the installation of the Woodward Pontiac Tribute. This is the second in a series of interpretive signs that will eventually line the corridor from Detroit to Pontiac. The first is located at the intersection of Cambourne and Woodward in Ferndale. The Tribute was celebrated with the “Illumination Reception” with a classic car show featuring the Michigan Widetracker’s, local and state dignitaries including Pontiac Mayor Leon Jukowski, Pontiac City Council and food and beverage provided by Barefoot Wines, Lafayette Grande and Bo’s Smokehouse. The event took place on the grounds of Lighthouse of Oakland County and through a canned food drive provided needed supplies for their Food Pantry Program. Friday, July 16 state and local officials celebrated the opening of the Pontiac Intermodal Transportation Terminal. The 4,500 square foot, $1.5 million facility will serve Amtrak, Greyhound and bus passengers.
