The 2009 Woodward Design and Streetscape Grant Program is underway.

WA3's involvement in the Federal National Scenic Byway (NSB)  program offers the WA3 the opportunity to provide grants to benefit the communities and encourage investment along Woodward. In 2008, the WA3 received $142,000 in NSB funds to benefit Woodward projects and was awarded $160,000 in funding for 2009-2011 fiscal years.

To date, the City of Pontiac received $8,000 to landscape the Gateway sign and plant 15-20 new trees in locations where the high maintenance planting beds will be removed.

The New Center Council, received $50,000 to fund a portion of the design and engineering costs associated with a streetscape improvement program in the New Center district. WA3’s contribution will leverage an investment of $270,000 in design. The enhancement project will visibly connect New Center through a series of streetscape enhancement projected to Midtown and Downtown Detroit.

The 6-8 Mile Woodward Initiative a project coordinated by the WA3 with support from the Palmer Woods Association, Green Acres and 7 Mile Business District, received $20,000 to assist in a conceptual streetscape design plan for Woodward Avenue between 6 and 8 Mile Roads. The streetscape design plan is part of the 6 to 8 Mile/Woodward Initiative’s Neighborhood Revitalization Plan.  The University Of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture, Detroit Collaborative Design Center has been identified to do the design work.
