WA3 FAQs Q. What are the benefits of membership?A. Members receive our quarterly newsletter, The WoodWORD, discounts to member events, listing on this web site, committee involvement and access to key decision-makers throughout metro Detroit . The WA3 is a 501(c)(3) charity, so contributions are tax deductible, too. For a complete listing of member benefits, click here. Q. So, you’re similar to a Chamber of Commerce? A. The WA3 is better categorized as an economic development organization that works to leverage funding by creating partnerships within the public and private sectors to improve Woodward. For example, we’ve assisted communities with obtaining funding for projects that otherwise may not have been funded, like safety and beautification projects. We work closely with various city departments and have influence with local, county, state and federal officials regarding funding and decisions that affect Woodward’s economic vitality. Q. You say the average member contributes $120 per year? How does that make a difference? A. If each Woodward business contributed $120 a year – only $10 a month – this funding could support substantial improvements along Woodward Avenue. We often must provide a commitment of local private dollars to qualify for grants that will assist us in accomplishing our goals for major improvements. Simply, your $120, combined with others, will leverage funding for more programs that benefit Woodward and your business. Q. I’ve heard Woodward’s been designated as one of America’s Byways™ and a All-American Road (r) . What is the significance of this and what does it mean for Woodward and my business? A. The designation recognizes Woodward’s international significance, cultural attractions, historic sites, events and automotive experiences. It provides a method for organizing and promoting these assets as part of a regional tourism plan to attract business and economic investment along Woodward Avenue. The designation also allows us to seek funding that otherwise would not come to Woodward. The increase in tourism and economic development that results from this program translates to jobs and a stronger business climate on Woodward. Visit www.woodwardavenue.us for a listing of Woodward events, attractions and historic sites. Q. I’m very busy and don’t have much time to get involved. How can my voice be heard? A. Your membership represents your commitment to improving Woodward – whether or not you’re actively involved. If you have comments or issues you’d like addressed, contact the business representatives from your community who serve on our Board of Directors. Comments and questions are always answered at admin@woodwardavenue.org or in person. Call us at 248-288-2004. Q. Are you the group that organizes the Dream Cruise? A. No. The Dream Cruise is operated by Woodward Dream Cruise, Inc. (WDC), whose sole purpose is organizing the Dream Cruise. However, the WA3 works in partnership with the Dream Cruise to help strengthen the significance of the “cruising story” and identifying opportunities to leverage its benefit for Woodward and the region. |
